Illinois State Senator Laura Murphy serves as Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate. She chairs the Executive Appointments Committee, is Vice-Chair of the Local Government Committee, is Sub-Chair of the Constitutional Offices and Elections Committees, and  is  Sub-Vice-Chair of the Government Operations committee. She is a strong supporter of Ranked Choice Voting. Currently, she is sponsoring SB 1785. 

Senator Murphy is a Park Ridge native who earned a B.S. in Political Science from Illinois State University. A former Des Plaines alderman, she currently lives in Des Plaines with her husband and son.
