League Action in September & October
11/1/24
Representing 3700 members across the state, the League teams up with other organizations so that all of our voices are amplified. Here’s what we spoke out on in September and October:
LWVIL President Becky Simon published an Op Ed in the Chicago Sun-Times cautioning readers about the dangers of election misinformation and disinformation.
LWVIL’s Issues & Advocacy team launched its local Defend Democracy Drop-in program to strengthen the impact of the League’s grassroots outreach and engage members to promote legislative issues on which the League has a position. The September DDD issue focus was Money in Politics and Judicial Ethics.
LWVIL submitted written testimony to the Illinois State Board of Education requesting that they ask the governor for an increase in Evidence Based Funding for Schools of $550 Million for FY2026 and $75 Million additional for Early Childhood Education.
LWVIL signed on to a letter sponsored by the Shedd Aquarium in support of the protection of wetlands.
Launched LWVIL use of ‘League in Action’ app for grassroots advocacy efforts
Representing League members across the country, LWVUS also signs onto letters and legal cases supporting League positions:
