League Action in October
11/1/23
Representing 3600 members across the state, LWVIL teams up with other organizations so that all of our voices are amplified. Here’s what we spoke out on in October:
LWVIL testified at the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to encourage them to recommend a funding increase for the FY2025 education budget. While LWVIL would prefer to see 100% of the current $819 million obligation met, we asked that IBSE request no less than $550 million.
LWV Adams County, with support from the state League and others, successfully argued that the Quincy City Council should vote “NO” to Quincy becoming a so-called Sanctuary City for the Unborn, a status designed to restrict access to reproductive care.
LWVIL endorsed a position of our coalition partner, Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice, referred to as Investing in Community-based Network of Care to Ensure Pretrial Success. This position supports the League’s pretrial diversion position and other elements of the SAFE-T Act previously supported by us.
Representing League members across the country, LWVUS also signs onto letters and memos supporting League positions:
