Hannah Yu

SPEAKER | LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF ILLINOIS, ISSUES BRIEFING 2023

Hannah Yu is a senior at A.E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL. She was motivated by Government teacher Andrew Conneen to put her ideas into action by collaborating with her Illinois State Representative, Daniel Didech, to create two bill proposals for the Illinois General Assembly.

One bill creates the “Educational Credit for Election Judges Act,” which authorizes Illinois schools of higher education to award academic credit to students who serve as election judges.

The other bill Amends the Environmental Protection Act and requires new washing machines manufactured or sold in Illinois to contain a microfiber filtration system. This is in response to the increasing amounts of microfiber particles in our water that are the residue of garments made of polyester fleece and other materials.
