CHICAGO, IL, January 15, 2025 — The League of Women Voters of Illinois will hold its annual Issues Briefing on Saturday, February 8, welcoming expert panelists to explore critical issues for Illinois. Issues Briefing will be held both online and in person at the NIU Naperville campus, 1120 E. Diehl Rd. Naperville, IL 60563.

Former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn will open the program with a keynote address. Among Governor Quinn's achievements while in office was abolishing the death penalty in Illinois and signing the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act, making Illinois the 16th state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage. He additionally won high praise for his leadership on environmental and gun control issues.

The rest of the day's sessions will cover immigrant rights, the threat of cuts to social safety nets, climate change legislation, criminal justice reform in domestic violence cases, Constitutional limits on executive powers, and states' rights. Panelists will frame the issues and discuss what attendees can do to take action.

"Part of the League's mission to empower voters and defend democracy is to provide fact-based information on the important issues we are facing today," said Becky Simon, President of the League of Women Voters of Illinois. "You can rely on the League of Women Voters for nonpartisan, accurate information."
